- This year's race awards will be designed by Matt Lipsey, known on Instagram as matthias_lipshitz2. Some of you may know Matt as an athlete from Mountain Peak Fitness/TrailsCollective. Matt is a two-time Team USA member in skyrunning and snowshoe racing. He most recently won the Hyner Trail Challenge 25k, setting a new course record. A little in-depth detail about this amazing athlete and artist. In 2020, Matt Lipsey was unexpectedly diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder, CIDP (chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy), that forced him to put his training aside. This disorder caused Matt to experience severe muscle weakness as CIDP attacks the body’s nervous system. Between onset and diagnosis, Matt spent four months in a chair in a state of steady decline. Fortunately, there is a treatment for this disorder and Matt receives monthly ivIG treatment. "If this treatment was to be described in as few words as possible, it could be said that he is injected with someone else’s antibodies to fight off his own antibodies from attacking his nervous system. Each month, an antibody civil war plays out inside his body" (https://runpa.org/). While the treatments allow Matt to perform near 100% levels again, the treatment is costly. Runpa.org offers limited edition shirts with prints drawn by Matt and all the proceeds from the shirts will help to offset his medical bills. We asked Matt to design our awards because he encompasses everything about what trail running is - passion, hard work, fun, and community. The top female and male in each race category will receive a print designed by Matt - which, no doubt, will be awesome!!! Please consider checking out https://runpa.org/ for future pre-order shirts by Matt.
